Obedience Training
DogSports' training incorporates behavior understanding and owner leadership in obedience classes. This provides the students with an all-around understanding so they can achieve the level of training they desire with a dog that is willing, happy and working as a team with his owner. We offer a variety of group and private lessons.
Flexible Training Program
What Is It?
Flexible training is a new, innovative training program that allows the student to complete the Beginner One 8-week training class in (up to) 4 months. In this program, you do not have to commit to 8 consecutive weeks. You choose the weeks, days and times that are convenient for you to train. All classes are available Mon. thru Thurs. each week.
How Does It Work?
First... attend an introductory lecture for your first class - choose from the list of dates/days/times.
Second... attend "stationary" commands class for your 2nd and 3rd classes - choose from the list of dates/days/times.
Then... choose to attend "stationary" commands or "moving" commands for 4 more classes - you select, per visit which class you want to attend. Attend the class that is most important for you and your dog - choose from the list of dates/days/times.
You still have one more week in the 8- week program - this is reserved for you to attend one "health and grooming" lecture. It does not have to be your 8th visit, just any one of your 8 visits.
What Are the Classes?
Introductory Lecture - learn the basics: how to communicate with your dog, how a dog learns, how to be the leader, and problem solving (i.e. jumping, nipping, barking, etc.)
Stationary Commands - learn to get the dog under control and ready to learn: sit, stay, down, and more
Moving Commands - now that the dog is under control from the stationary commands classes, learn the moving commands: walk on the leash without pulling, come when called, and more
Health and Grooming Lecture - learn how to trim nails, brush teeth, and take care of your dog; learn how to be sure your dog stays in good health
How Do I Enroll?
Stop in or call Jan (ext. 313) for a registration form. When we receive your registration, payment and shot records, you will be ready to start. Select an introductory lecture to attend, and let us know when you're coming. At the end of the introductory lecture, you will be given detailed instructions on how to let us know when you're coming in the future.
What is the Fee?
The 8-week program fee is $100; we require an additional $25 deposit, which is refunded in the same method it was paid (cash, check, charge) when you have completed the entire 8-week program within 4 months.
FAQ's
Why do I have to make a refundable deposit of $25?
We are committed to helping you train your dog to become a great pet and a mannerly member of our society. Since you are not required to attend 8 consecutive weeks, we want to make sure you do complete the whole beginner program. We hope anticipation of the deposit refund will assure your attendance.
How will you know me and my dog if I attend different days/times?
Similar to your veterinary records, we will maintain a chart for you and your dog to keep track of attendance, progress and problems we are helping you with.
Can I do 8 consecutive weeks just like a scheduled class?
Yes, you can attend up to 2 times per week to complete your program. We do not suggest attending more than 1 training class (stationary or moving commands) in any calendar week.
Why has DogSports introduced this innovative training program?
We are all juggling busy schedules. Sometimes it's just not convenient (you're too tired, you're ill, dog is ill, an emergency arose) to attend class on the same day, at the same time for 8 consecutive weeks. Many people have rotating work schedules and are not available 8 weeks at the same time. A dog needs training and you need training! This program allows you the freedom to do training when it's convenient for you.
I still have questions - how can I get them answered?
